Distance-Based Non-Deterministic Semantics

چکیده
Representing uncertainty and reasoning with dynamically evolving systems are two related issues that are in the heart of many information systems. In this paper we show that these tasks can be successfully dealt with by incorporating distance semantics and nondeterministic matrices. The outcome is a general framework for capturing the principle of minimal change and providing a non-deterministic view of the domain of discourse. We investigate some properties of the entailment relations that are induced by this framework and demonstrate their usability in some test-cases.

Distance-based non-deterministic semantics for reasoning with uncertainty
Non-deterministic matrices, a natural generalization of many-valued matrices, are semantic structures in which the value assigned to a complex formula may be chosen non-deterministically from a given set of options. We show that by combining non-deterministic matrices and distance-based considerations, one obtains a family of logics that are useful for reasoning with uncertainty. These logics a...
متن کاملNon-deterministic Distance Semantics for Handling Incomplete and Inconsistent Data
We introduce a modular framework for formalizing reasoning with incomplete and inconsistent information. This framework is composed of non-deterministic semantic structures and distance-based considerations. The combination of these two principles leads to a variety of entailment relations that can be used for reasoning about nondeterministic phenomena and are inconsistency-tolerant. We investi...

متن کاملInconsistency-Tolerance in Knowledge-Based Systems by Dissimilarities
Distance-based reasoning is a well-known approach for defining non-monotonic and paraconsistent formalisms, which so far has been mainly used in the context of standard two-valued semantics. In this paper, we extend this approach to arbitrary denotational semantics by considering dissimilarities, a generalization of distances. Dissimilarity-based reasoning is then applied for handling inconsist...
متن کاملAxiomatizing Bisimulation Equivalences and Metrics from Probabilistic SOS Rules
Probabilistic transition system specifications (PTSS) provide structural operational semantics for reactive probabilistic labeled transition systems. Bisimulation equivalences and bisimulation metrics are fundamental notions to describe behavioral relations and distances of states, respectively. We provide a method to generate from a PTSS a sound and ground-complete equational axiomatization fo...
